WPP Launches Walter Pierce Park Archeology Project

In partnership with Howard University and the Kalorama Citizens Association, and led by Professor Mark Mack and Researcher Mary Belcher, Parks & People has launched a major archeological initiative to document, protect, and permanently celebrate the largest uncharted African American cemetery in the capital, where over 7,500 men, women, and children lie buried underneath Adams Morgan’s Walter Pierce Park astride Rock Creek and the National Zoo. In concert with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, Ian Tyndall is leading the Park Master Planning effort going forward.
