Welcome to Washington Parks & People!

Join Us!

The kind of work that Washington Parks & People carries out every day would be impossible without the amazing network of volunteers, supporters, community members, and partners who pour their love and energy into bringing about positive, parks-based change in the Washington city region. Are you ready to become part of the Washington Parks & People family? Here are a few ways you can get involved.

Donate

Thank you for choosing to contribute to Washington Parks & People! Your gift does more than support our mission to grow citywide park-based health & vitality – it is an investment in DC’s most valuable but forgotten assets, its parks and its people. Your support to the Think Outside campaign will encourage decision-makers to put parks and greenspaces at the center of community health and vitality.

Because the core costs of our organization are covered through our green social enterprise model, 100% of your donation goes directly to impacts on the ground where they are needed most. As a community non-profit, we receive $0 toward our operating budget from the government.

With your gift of any amount, you are automatically enrolled as a member of Parks & People, and will begin receiving our email newsletter. Unlock additional membership benefits with a contribution of $25 or more. Read about our different membership levels on our Join page, or contact us at [email protected] for more information!

Washington Parks & People is a charitable 501(c)3 organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.

Give today via the form, or mail checks to our campaign hub at 2437 15th St. NW, Washington, DC, 20009. (A donation by check allows us to direct 100% of your donation into our programs rather than to credit card processing fees!)

Washington Parks & People relies on the support of our friends and members to promote community health, economy, and agriculture through our public parks and greens. Will you give to advance this vital work?

Volunteer

We’re always looking for volunteers! We have virtual, in-person, and group volunteer opportunities available. Safety measures are in place to keep all in-person volunteers safe and distanced. Browse the listed positions and fill out the form below if you are interested. If you have any questions feel free to email us at [email protected].

**WPP is able to sign off on hours volunteered as community service

Historic Building Restoration Volunteer:
We’re looking for hard-working restoration/renovation volunteers. No previous experience necessary. The volunteer will learn under the supervision of Behnam, our Sites Manager, taking care of the renovation of a historic building – the Josephine Butler Parks Center. The volunteer will gain valuable knowledge across all aspects of restoration. Some examples include painting, carpentry, landscaping, gardening, deep cleaning, and the overall restoration of this National Register property. WPP is looking for those who are willing to learn and open to a flexible schedule.

Volunteers work with staff to create a weekly schedule, however, we are looking for volunteers who are able to come on a weekly basis between the hours of 9am-5pm.

Urban Farm/Park Clean-up Volunteer:
Interested in volunteering at a community greening center or in a park? We have opportunities at our one-acre urban farm, the Marvin Gaye Greening Center, along with Marvin Gaye Park, the park adjacent to the greening center. At the greening center we grow fresh organic produce for the Ward 7 and 8 communities. Volunteers help with weeding, harvesting, planting, and tending to the farm. No experience is necessary. Volunteers may also head into Marvin Gaye Park and help out with things such as tree planting, invasive species removal, trash clean up, stream clean up, and general park beautification.

Want to volunteer with a group? While the pandemic is ongoing we can safely host up to 20 volunteers, and during non-pandemic times we have the capability to host 100+ volunteers! Email us to set up a volunteer date (includes weekends).

Service Saturday Park Clean-up:
The 3rd Saturday of every month from 10am-1pm we have a park clean-up in Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park. Interested in volunteering? No need to sign up, just come out at 9am and meet us at the base of the Joan of Arc statue. We love to host groups on Service Saturdays! Email us for more information.
